Finally, it’s my senior year. Feels like I was just a freshman yesterday. So far my senior year has been great. I completed all my classes last year so all I have this year is; English, economics, government, and electives. I’ve also been working really hard to get my work done before the required deadline. I do homework every night unlike last year when I waited until the last second to do my work.
Since last year was my first year in Lindsay High School I’m a little behind on my senior project but I’m working on catching up. What I’m really excited to be doing for my senior project is the job shadow. It seems really interesting and fun. I’m not sure what exactly I would like to job shadow but I have some ideas.
Last week we had senior sunrise. It was a really fun experience for me because I got to interact with all the people my age I will be graduating with. It was my first time ever waking up at 5am just to go to the football field to watch the sunrise. After the sun came up we all ran to the parking lot to hurry to the nearest Denny’s or iHop to have breakfast. It was exciting to be doing all this at 5am.
Something exciting about this year for me is cheering. I tried out for cheerleading and I made varsity. I started cheering when i was 10, I cheered for the falcons. There I got an award for being the most improved. After that we moved to Strathmore and there I cheered at Strathmore High School my freshman year and some of my Sophomore year. During the middle of my sophomore year we moved to Madera so I had to stop cheering. I lived in Madera for only 5 months, on the last day of school we moved back to Lindsay. Since we moved during the summer it was to late to try out for cheerleading, I couldn’t try out until my senior year. Finally, my senior year got here and I got to try out for cheerleading and make the squad. I am very excited to be a cheerleader this year and spend my friday nights cheering on the football players.
My goals for this year are to finish all my classes with 3.5 or 4s and to finish all my work without falling behind. To do this I will have to continue doing homework and classwork I did not complete in class at home. Also, to get 3.5 and 4s I will have to add more details to all my projects and try to make them better. I will also attend any study groups or ask for help when I need it. I will study really hard before every test or quiz as well.
Lastly, I can’t wait to do all the things I saw seniors do my 3 years of high school; go to disneyland for grad night , go to prom, and finally graduate. This year should be really exciting and stressful some night but it will all be worth it the day I get to wear my cap and gown and hear my name being announced while I walk up to receive my diploma in front of my family.

Not a lot has changed since my last journal entry. I am still passing most of my classes. I finished the first semester for chemistry and Spanish II a week early and began the second semester. I completed all my work for economy during winter break so all I had to do coming back to school before the semester ends was the MT4 project and EOT. I am also caught up in drama. The only classes I fell behind a little on was English and precalculus. I had decided to procrastinate, but now I am working really hard everyday after school to finish all my work for english. All I need now is module 4. In precal, however, I began to fall behind from the beginning so there is more work to be done, but I am meeting with the math tutor for PLT and am really trying to catch up.
I am having some difficulties with my senior project. I still do not quite understand what we are suppose to do or how to set it up since i have not been at this school for as long as the other seniors. But I am going to ask around and get as much help from the students and teachers around me to get it done and perfect. I am working on setting up an appointment to do my job shadow. My job shadow is something I am really looking forward to. I expect to have fun and receive as much information as possible to see if this career is right for me.
My senior year has been fun but also stressful. I have interacted with a lot more of my peers, and began to feel comfortable around them. Attending so many schools in the past had led me to keep to myself and not get too comfortable around new people, because I never knew when we would move again, but coming back to Lindsay made me realize that I need to live in the moment and stop worrying about the future so much. After all we only get to attend high school once. It has also been stressful because I have been working really hard to not fall behind in my classes but above all it has been one of my best years so far.
My parents have really been supporting me throughout this whole year; pushing me to do all my work on time, allowing me to practically live at starbucks just to use wifi and get my work done. They even considered getting wifi at home although we do not have much money to pay for such luxuries. My older brother has also been very supportive. Since he did not graduate, he is pushing me and helping me in any way he can to make sure i graduate and attend a good college. I also help out in the family business which teaches me to manage work and school to prepare me for life in college. I am feeling very supported and cannot wait until I receive my diploma and make my family proud.

Winter break is over and now comes my last semester of high school. My winter break was really good. For christmas I got a new phone which was very needed since my old one’s screen was really broken from falling a lot. I also got new clothes and MAC makeup. For New Year’s Eve all my family got together at my uncle’s house in Pixley to celebrate and stay up until midnight to count down to the new year. That was very fun but New Year’s Day was even more fun. All of my family went to Hollywood for the first time to see the famous stars. While there, we rented a private tour bus that took us to all of the fun tourist places. It also took us around Beverly Hills to see all of the famous celebrities huge houses. Although a week later we went to Universal Studios, The tour bus was the best experience.
Reality has not yet hit me that this is my last semester of high school. Graduation is only a few months away but it does not feel real. Reality will probably hit me once I put on my cap and gown and get ready for graduation. University applications were very stressful. There was a lot of question I needed help on but with the help of my cousin I got 7 applications done on time. I applied to Fresno State, California State University, Bakersfield, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Davis, University of California, Merced, and University of California, Santa Cruz. Now all I can do is wait for their answer.
After job shadowing a personal banker I decided I am going to apply to a bank once I graduate and turn eighteen. While working for a bank I will attend college to receive a degree in business and be more likely to move up and become manager. I am on pace to graduate, there is only one class I am behind on. The only class I have been having trouble with is pre calculus. I am working really hard to catch up. One reason why I am behind is because I always put it last, I never considered it a priority. I always put English, Government, or Economics first since those are required to graduate and pre calculus is not, it is just an elective. Now I am trying really hard to go back and finish all the assignments I had not finished and retaking any test I did not pass. I believe I will finish by the end of the school year.

Graduation keeps getting closer and closer. The closer it gets, the more excited and nervous I get. I feel excited to be graduating because I will be the first one in my family to do so and make my parents proud but, I also feel nervous and stressed out. Although I have been doing really good at getting my work done and staying on pace, I get nervous that if I miss even one thing it will hold me back from graduating and that causes me to stress out horribly. I really want to make my parents proud and show them that I will succeed. I also want them to know that they made a good choice by leaving everything they knew in Mexico behind to give us, their kids, a better future than they had for themselves.
Working for my dad in his Taco Truck has made me responsible and has taught me how to work for my money and how to value it. It has also taught me how to manage work and school, which will help me once I enter college and get a real job. After graduation I plan on continuing to work for my dad while applying to multiple jobs until I get hired for one. I plan on saving the money I earn for when I go to college so I can buy my own needs instead of having to rely on my parents.
To be on pace in pre calculus I need to retake the EOT for MT2 and MT3. Right now I am working on a lot of practice worksheets with the math tutor for both MT’s as practice to prepare for the EOT’s. At first I had a lot of trouble with the worksheets but, with the Mr. Moreno’s help they became very easy. I am planning to take the EOT’s this week so I can finally be on pace. I am also working really hard to finish the second semester of Spanish II so I won’t have to worry about it and just focus on English and government. I am hoping to finish by spring break.
I am really looking forward to grad night. I was the first person to give the deposit and choose my seat on the bus. I have only been to Disneyland twice; once when I was a couple months old so I do not remember, and again when I was 14 years old but it rained all day long so most of the rides were closed off. Grad night should be a really fun experience, especially being there with all my friends. I have done a really good job at staying on pace so being eligible should not be a problem.
Overall, this has been a great year. I am glad I got to spend my last year in high school at Lindsay High, reunited with friends from elementary school and middle school, and just people from the town I grew up in. This has definitely been my most memorable year yet.
